On Instagram, 1.FC Koln striker Davie Selke has confirmed his departure from the club as the club were relegated from the Bundesliga.
On the social media platform, Selke said:
hello dear fc fans
I don’t know exactly what to write.
I felt very comfortable in cologne and FC.
It is no secret that I could imagine going on the road with you.
That chance was finally taken from me.
Thank you for the short but intense time!
You are and will always be in my heart
Euer Davie
It had been known for a while that the striker would leave the side in the summer after their relegation as despite Selke wanting to stay and willing to take a paycut, the club and player were unable to come to an agreement on other details related to staying. It means Selke is now a free agent.
Now, according to Sky Germany, Selke has been linked with a move to Koln’s new 2.Bundesliga rivals Hamburg. Talks are ongoing between the two parties.
In Koln’s relegation season, Selke was the team’s top scorer with six goals in 19 games as Koln finished 17th in the Bundesliga. This will once again mean that Koln will have to somehow replace Selke in the summer whilst also having a transfer ban to navigate.
