Speaking to RTL (via @iMiaSanMia), Deniz Undav commented on his first goal for the national team as well as the team as a whole after their 2-2 draw with the Netherlands.

Undav equalised for Germany in the 38th minute after they went 1-0 down to the Netherlands early on. This was the 28-year-old’s first start for Germany as he replaced the injured Niclas Füllkrug. The VfB Stuttgart striker would then turn provider for Joshua Kimmich as Germany took the lead heading into halftime.

On his first goal, Undav said:

“I’m very happy to score my first goal in my first start, especially against a team like The Netherlands. Even though of course I’d have liked to win the game. I had no pressure and just tried to play my game and score, it worked out today.”

Since Julian Nagelsmann has taken over, Germany have improved massively and looks a lot closer to the giant of international football that they once were. The EURO 2024 performance not only showed the progress Germany had made but also made the country fall in love with the team once again. Undav was then posed the question of if Germany are once again part of the international football elite.

The 28-year-old answered:

“Not yet. But we’re in a good way. The chemistry in the team is amazing. We still have to learn, we made mistakes that shouldn’t be happening at this level. I’m confident we can improve and achieve big things”

For Germany, the October international break once again consists of Nations League games against Bosnia and Herzegovina before their return game in Munich against the Netherlands.
