Luke Shaw has revealed he has suffered “a bit of a setback” in what has been the “most difficult period” of his current injury nightmare.
He manchester united and the England defender has made just three appearances from the bench this season, against Ipswich Town, Bodo/Glimt and Everton in his return to form.
However, he was absent from the Man United team's trip to London for Wednesday's Premier League clash against Arsenal, sparking speculation that he was injured again.
He has since confirmed that he will be absent in an emotional Instagram post.
He wrote on his Instagram Story: “Hey guys, it really hurts me to have to write this because I really thought I had overcome my recent struggles and was on a positive path going forward, but unfortunately I had a little setback.
“I've been through a lot and I've had a lot of ups and downs, but this has definitely been my most difficult period.
“I am absolutely devastated and it is extremely difficult to accept reality at the moment.
“I understand that there will be people frustrated, angry, disappointed and I understand all that.
“There's no one who feels that more than me right now.
“But what I can promise is that I will do everything I can to come back better soon and help this club achieve its ambitions this season.
“Thank you all for the support. It really doesn't go unnoticed and I really appreciate it.”
According to the Manchester Evening NewsShaw is expected to be out for a few weeks and his injury is muscular. talkSPORT understands it is a different injury to the calf strain that has kept him sidelined this season.
The 29-year-old missed the first few games of the Premier League season due to a calf injury suffered at the start of pre-season training.
He played at the end of England's Euro 2024 campaign and arrived at camp returning to fitness.
Shaw also missed most of last season due to various injuries.
He made just 15 appearances in all competitions that campaign.
Since becoming the most expensive teenager in world football when he signed from Southampton in 2014 for £30,000, the left-back has made 278 appearances for the club.
He has also won two League Cups, the FA Cup and the Europa League with the Red Devils.
