After weeks of fan protests throughout the Bundesliga and 2.Bundesliga, the DFL have today released a statement saying they will no longer pursue negotiations over the deal.

No further vote on the matter will take place.

The deal was originally passed in December 2023, and the DFL states that the results of the vote are still legally binding. However, due to issues surrounding the voting behaviour of Hannover 96, several clubs have recently called for a new vote, and the DFL rejected such a proposal.

The original deal was to allow investors into the Bundesliga to help further the marketing of the league on an international scale. Some of the ‘perks’ of the deal were a Bundesliga-focused streaming platform and more money for clubs to travel abroad.

Now, with the DFL turnaround, it shows how powerful fan power and the 50+1 rule are in German football. The persistent protesting and stoppages of games
