Moussa Diaby is focused on bouncing back against Brentford on Saturday as Aston Villa strive to return to winning ways.

The Villans fell to a 4-1 defeat on Wednesday night at reigning Premier League, Champions League, Super Cup and Club World Cup champions Manchester City.

It was a first away defeat of 2024 for Villa, who saw their eight-match unbeaten run on the road come to an end.

But forward Diaby is determined to get back on track against the Bees at Villa Park this weekend.

“We didn’t play well, we played against I think the best team in the world and also in the league,” he said.

“We have to continue, we have a game on Saturday to still (focus) on the top four.

“And we have to work this weekend to play well against Brentford.”

Jhon Durán’s low finish at the end of a superb flowing team move cancelled out Rodri’s opener and put Unai Emery’s side back on level terms midway through the first half at the Etihad Stadium.

But Phil Foden’s free-kick restored the home side’s advantage, with Diaby left to rue the strike in first-half injury time.

Foden then added a quickfire brace after the restart to complete his hat-trick and leave Villa empty handed, yet Diaby remains upbeat.

“We’re still fourth in the league and we have seven games more to fight for the top four until the end of the season,” he added.

“We have to win a lot of games to fight for the Champions League.

“I believe in this team, I think we can get this position at the end of the season.”
