Diego Simeone addresses controversial Atletico Madrid disallowed goal against Real Madrid – 'They say it's fair'
Atletico Madrid managed to walk away from Sunday's Madrid derby with a point, thanks to Marcos Llorente's header in the 93rd minute. The result ensured the Rojiblancos avoided defeat in three of their four meetings with Real Madrid this season, with their only loss coming in the semi-finals of the Spanish Supercup – they could also return to the Champions League.
It could be even better for Atleti in the night, like they had a goal ruled out by VAR less than three minutes into the second half. Stefan Savic brilliantly headed home Antoine Griezmann's corner, but Saul Niguez – who was offside – was adjudged to have interfered with Andriy Lunin.
Atleti coach Diego Simeone addressed the moment in his pre-match press conference. He admitted that he did not see it behind, but the officials told him that it was the right decision, as for Brand.
“Real Madrid only had two chances. We had Griezmann's chance and the goal was disallowed, which (referees) said is fair because Saul was in front of the goalkeeper.
The result is almost always the same Atletico Madrid in the La Liga title race, although they are 10 points behind Real Madrid, they need to start picking up wins, and soon, if they are to start making up ground. Simeon will be fully aware of this.
