Lucas Digne played a starring role on his 50th international appearance on Sunday evening, as France recorded a 3-1 UEFA Nations League victory over Italy at the San Siro.
Starting the game, the left-back had a hand in all three Les Bleus goals, swinging a corner onto the head of Adrien Rabiot who gave them the lead just two minutes in. The assist was Digne’s second in his last two international starts.
Then, just after the half-hour mark, Digne forced France’s second, stepping up and sending a wicked free-kick goalwards. His effort cannoned off the post and ricocheted back off Italy ‘keeper Guglielmo Vicario and in for 2-0.
After Andrea Cambiaso had halved the deficit before the break, the visitors made sure of the points just after the hour, Digne whipping another pinpoint set-piece delivery into the area for Rabiot to once again head home.
The win saw Didier Deschamps’ side secure top spot in Group A2 on goal difference, booking their place in the quarter-finals as a top seed.
Earlier in the day, there was a second England appearance for Morgan Rogers, as The Three Lions eased to a 5-0 victory over Republic of Ireland at Wembley to secure promotion to UEFA Nations League A for the 2025/26 campaign.
Rogers followed up his debut off the bench against Greece on Thursday with a further 15-minute substitute cameo. Ollie Watkins – having given England the lead in Athens in their first game of the November break – remained an unused substitute.
