League rules state that players cannot be registered by the same club twice in the same season, and having initially registered both players due to an emergency injury decision in August, they had until January to solve their salary cap issues. Barcelona signed a new sponsorship deal with Nike, but after it was insufficient to register Olmo and Victor, they turned to sell some of the commercial rights to their VIP boxes at Camp Nou for €100 million for the next 20 years.

It was leaked to the media that Barcelona had sent documents in the last two days, but the League released a statement three hours before the deadline explaining that Barcelona had not presented any new information relevant to his registration. The Blaugrana had previously issued a statement saying they had applied for a new license from the Spanish Football Federation, but it remains to be seen whether it will be granted.
Victor is ready to go on loan, while Olmo's situation is unclear. Agent Andy Bara said his client will remain at Barcelona as he wants to play for his boyhood club, but has a clause in his contract that allows him to leave for free if he wants, with the full sum of his six-year contract in his pocket. No doubt many European elites will try to persuade him to exercise this clause.
