The new Red Devils boss was halfway through his post-match report when he was strangely interrupted by Sheeran, who is an Ipswich shareholder.

The pop star later apologized for what happened, writing on Instagram: “Sorry if I offended Amorim yesterday, I didn't realize he was being interviewed at the time, he was popping in to say hello and say goodbye to Jamie.

“Obz is feeling a bit cursed but life goes on. Great game though, congratulations to everyone involved x.”

talkSPORT presenters Jeff Stelling and Shebahn Aherne clashed over whether they thought what happened was irritating or not.

Speaking on Breakfast, Aherne asked: “I mean, did that irritate anyone else or was it just me who didn't like that moment?”

However, stellar replied: “I didn't think there was anything offensive about it.

“I have to say it's his club, he's a shareholder there, the club themselves say it's hugely important to promote Ipswich Town and I don't know what was going on in the background, why he appeared on the screen, whether he was being encouraged to do that.” “

Aherne added: “But he didn't have anything to say. He just shakes (Jamie) Redknapp's hand, smiles, Ruben Amorim doesn't seem entirely happy with the whole situation.”

Ally McCoist agreed, explaining, “It was a little awkward, wasn't it? I think, I don't know, they could have handled it differently? When he keeps walking, I think the first thing you have to do is ask him.” a question.

“I know Ruben Amorim is there and it's awkward, but unless you ask him a question, it's going to be even more awkward. You know what I mean?”

“I see your point, it was about what he was doing there, asking him a question or something. He just shook Jamie's hand and disappeared.”

However, Stelling remained supportive of Sheeran, continuing: “He did it and look, Sky would have paid any amount of money to have Ed Sheeran live on TV.

“Look, they spent the whole afternoon showing pictures of him in the stands. Now I have no idea if they encouraged him to go to the set or not, but I don't see what the big deal is.

Ipswich Town chief executive Mark Ashton reveals Ed Sheeran convinced a fan to sign for the club moments before joining Taylor Swift on stage.

“Ruben Amorim knows who Ed Sheeran is, unless he didn't come from Portugal but from a different planet, so where was the problem? Surely he also knows Ed Sheeran's connection to Ipswich.”

Amorim had taken charge of his first match since becoming United manager on Sunday, and the match ended in a 1-1 draw.

Exchanges between Aherne and Stelling over the incident continued, with the former stating: “Don't you think it was Amorim's moment? It was his first subsequent game since taking over at Manchester United.”

Her co-presenter responded: “But it wasn't all Manchester United. Shebahn and Ipswich were also playing.”

Meanwhile, Aherne argued: “No, I know, but it's not Kieran McKenna's first day or first game in charge.”

Stelling responded flatly: “So what, it's Ed Sheeran's club,” before the Early Sports Breakfast presenter added: “It's Manchester United Jeff, come on, let's not pretend it's not.”

In response, the former Soccer Saturday presenter said: “It's at Portman Road, Ed Sheeran doesn't care if it's Manchester United, it's his club, he's a shareholder, it's at Portman Road. It wasn't for him.”

Aherne then asked: “They're doing a post-match interview about football, why is Ed Sheeran there?”

Finally, Stelling ended the argument by exclaiming: “It's not just about Rubén Amorim, quite the opposite.

“And why he was there, I don't know, that's what I'm saying, they may have encouraged him to be there.”

Sheeran was in the stands on Sunday during the Red Devils' visit to newly promoted Ipswich.

The singer-songwriter became a minority shareholder in August following the club's return to the Premier League.

They also sponsor the kit, with their '+–=÷× Tour' logo appearing on the front of the shirt from 2021.
