Eduardo Camavinga on the absence of Thibaut Courtois ahead of the France-Belgium Euro 2024 clash – “It's good…”
Arguably the Euro 2024 round of 16 match-up is France vs. Belgium, which takes place on Monday night. Both teams have underperformed so far in the tournament, although they remain two of the best sides on their day.
Real Madrid is well represented in the France team, with Ferland Mendy, Aurelien Tchouameni, Eduardo Camavinga and Kylian Mbappe. Neither of them will face team-mate Thibaut Courtois on Monday, after Belgium coach Domenico Tedesco opted to call the Real Madrid goalkeeper on because of an ongoing dispute between the pair.
For Camavinga, this is a major advantage for the Bleus, as he told the media (via Relief).
“It is good for us that he does not play (with Belgium), because he is a great goalkeeper. He saves everything.”
Camavinga also spoke about the prospect of meeting Kevin De Bruyne.
“I don't have the secret to mark him. He is a great player, he moves all over the field. The most important thing is for us to be compact in defense.”
Courtois was in great form for Real Madrid at the end of last season, especially considering that he is coming back from two serious knee injuries. It is undoubtedly a miss for Belgium, which is a positive for France.
