Unai Emery spoke to the press at Bodymoor Heath on Tuesday afternoon, ahead of Aston Villa’s midweek trip to Everton.

The Villans travel to Goodison Park at 7.30pm on Wednesday, looking to make it three wins in a row on their return to Premier League action.

Emery met with members of the local and national media at the club’s training ground to look ahead to the clash, with David Moyes and the January transfer window also among the topics of conversation.

On Everton and David Moyes…

“Of course, every match we are playing has been difficult, playing away more difficult.

“Our challenge is how we can compete away, because the last matches we played away in Premier League, we didn’t work, we didn’t get points, and tomorrow is our challenge.

“It’s difficult, because as well, it’s Everton with a new coach, and of course I think they are going to be – the crowd and the players – very motivated, excited as well, with [David] Moyes, because before he was a very successful coach there with them.

“But we have to try to focus on our match, our gameplan, our idea to impose on the field, respecting them.

“Overall, maybe some tactical work they are going to change, but I think the players they are playing more or less, tomorrow they will be on the field defending Everton.

“Of course, we respect their players, we respect their stadium, we respect a new coach with a new idea, and I respect as well the difficulty we are going to face tomorrow.

“But, with everything, like I am explaining the difficulties, we are confident, and the opportunity we have tomorrow to try to change our bad results we have achieved in the last matches.”

On preparing to face a new manager…

“One area we have [is] how he was playing with West Ham, and another area we have is trying to understand individual work with the players they have, with their skill, how they were more or less playing in the last matches.

“But of course, the mix we are trying to understand, with the new idea and style [of] David Moyes, and as well with the players they have.”

On January transfer window…

“The most important is that we’re playing tomorrow, Everton, but of course, we are in the January transfer window, and we are trying to do some movement.

“We are alert, and we want always to be ready to improve our squad with the players and of course sometimes as well, some players [are] wanting to leave for different circumstances.”
