- Aston Villa Vs. Nottingham Forest – Sat, Feb 24th 2024, 15:00
Unai Emery was pleased to get back to winning ways at Villa Park with a 4-2 victory against Nottingham Forest.
Aston Villa’s head coach saw his team dominate the first half, scoring three times and only conceding with the last action of the opening 45 minutes.
Forest threatened a comeback when they netted their second shortly after the restart, but the hosts responded and put the game to bed to end a run of three straight home losses.
“I’m very happy and proud of the supporters,” he said.
“We needed to feel comfortable here and connecting with our supporters, transmitting our energy. We needed them and they were supporting us.
“Today we showed our reaction like we did in Sheffield after we lost here against Newcastle. We did it again in Fulham after we lost to Manchester United but we needed to confirm it here with our personality, playing like we played today.
“We needed to feel comfortable here playing with our style and our idea. The supporters have to follow us and they have to be pushing us, they did it. It was fantastic, the day we spent here today with our supporters winning the match.”
Douglas Luiz was on target twice and Leon Bailey and Ollie Watkins bagged a goal apiece as Villa showed their attacking power.
Emery was equally pleased to see his substitutes coming on and making an impact, with Calum Chambers seeing his first Premier League action of the season.
He said: “We have to have players scoring goals and adding assists. We were speaking about winning through a clean sheet but when we are winning and conceding some goals we have to accept it.
“We are happy but our process is still being strong in our mentality and idea that we are trying to build and create. Today, more or less, every player showed it.
“We needed Calum Chambers and he played and he helped us. We needed as well to use other players like Morgan Rogers and Nicolo Zaniolo and they were showing commitment like we were speaking about before.”
