All eyes on Sir Jim Ratcliffe. The big decision is made, now an even bigger decision.
Although it was the Great Sir Jim's decision?
Should Ten Hag have been fired? Despite this famous victory? In retrospect, it is suggested that it should have been that way.
At Wembley that day:
Asked if he thinks the media has treated him unfairly, Ten Hag told Gary Lineker: “I think so, and so does the team. “It wasn't good.”
Alan Shearer intervened to say that United have rarely been as good as they are today and often deserved any criticism they received. “You're right, but we didn't have the players,” he responded. “It wasn't always good football, definitely not, but if you don't have the players you can't play the football you want.”
Was it your last game in charge of United? “I don't know,” he said. “The only thing I am doing is training my team, preparing my team, developing my team because this is a project for me. When I came in, I can say that it was a disaster and now we are better, but we are nowhere near where we want to be.”
United's think tank kept him and spent even more money. A fateful decision.
The complaints were in vain after that defeat against West Ham. It probably wasn't a penalty, but then again, Ten Hag wasn't a great defender. manchester united manager.
It seems like quite some time has passed since the “bald is the best” campaign.
Will Unwin has the story so far.
Here is the club's official statement: short but concise. Seen shorter.
Erik ten Hag has left his position as coach of Manchester United's men's first team.
Erik was appointed in April 2022 and led the club to two domestic trophies, winning the Carabao Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024.
We thank Erik for everything he has done during his stay with us and we wish him the best for the future.
Ruud van Nistelrooy will take charge of the team as interim coach, supported by the current coaching staff, while a permanent coach is hired.
Preamble
Well, it wasn't a shock, was it? It had been coming. Even if VAR dealt the final blow to West Ham, Ten Hag has been in tough territory since the start of the season. He leaves as a League Cup and FA Cup winner, but becomes the sixth manager since Sir Alex Ferguson, if Ralf Rangnick is included.
What's next? Ruud van Nistelrooy is the goalkeeper and looked likely to play that role since arriving in the summer as assistant coach. The Ineos regime has dismissed its first coach, who joins the numerous employees who have left the club.
