Erik ten Hag paid tribute to super-sub Scott McTominay as Manchester United turned up the heat in the top-four race.
McTominay stepped off the bench to make a crucial contribution for the third time this season as he headed a late winner to give United a 2-1 win at Aston Villa. Ten Hag’s side are now five points behind Villa and six behind fourth-placed Tottenham.
‘It’s a massive win for us,’ said Ten Hag. ‘We’ve got closer, that was absolutely our target and we’ve done it.
‘We can beat any opponent away or home, but sometimes away we have to believe it more. It’s about belief and this team today believed we could win.’
