Erik ten Hag may be ready for new Manchester United contract, but he will still be sacked at Christmas
Manchester United's vote of confidence in coach Erik ten Hag will lead to his dismissal at Christmas.
That is the view of talkSPORT's Jamie O'Hara, who is not convinced the Dutchman will remain at the club long-term.
Manchester United confirmed on Monday that Ten Hag would continue in his role and begin talks on a new deal following a lengthy internal review of the team's performance during the 2022/23 season.
He Red Devils suffered their lowest finish of the Premier League season, finishing eighth with 60 points and a negative goal difference.
United saved their terrible season against all odds, beating the Premier League champions city of manchester in the FA Cup final last month.
Minority shareholder Sir Jim Ratcliffe held talks with former Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel last week, while Mauricio Pochettino was also in the picture, however, neither looked destined for the Old Trafford hotseat.
ten witches It once again looks to be the flavor of the month at the Theater of Dreams, but former Tottenham midfielder O'Hara doesn't expect it to last much longer.
“We'll see what happens,” he said on The Sports Bar on Wednesday night.
“Hopefully (Man United) will be better than last season, but I think Ten Hag will be sacked before Christmas.
“I just don't think there was any manager who met Jim Ratcliffe's requirements.”
O'Hara's comments were echoed by his talkSPORT colleague Simon Jordan, who is unconvinced by United's apparent new backing of Ten Hag.
“The fact that they came back to Ten Hag could be because they couldn't find something better or maybe they're waiting for someone,” he said on White & Jordan on Thursday.
“Then they sit on Ten Hag and say, 'I'll tell you what, we'll give you another twist.'
“Here's my prediction: I don't think Ten Hag will survive the season.
“I think Man United will continue in the same direction, continue with the same weaknesses and the same challenges.
“He will continue to trot out the same nonsense and then we will find ourselves in a position six months from now where Ten Hag may find himself in a situation where the mere benefit of staying is that he will get a greater reward.”
