Erik ten Hag says Manchester United can challenge for the title and praises the new management, who “have been very supportive”

Erik ten Hag says he is “very happy” to be backing Manchester United and aims to win more trophies this season.

The Dutch manager came under intense scrutiny in the final months of last season with many suggesting he would be sacked following Sir Jim Ratcliffe's minority takeover of Old Trafford.

Instead, Ten Hag has extended his contract for another year, meaning he is now committed to the club until the summer of 2026, a huge show of faith from the Premier League giants.

As well as securing Ten Hag's future, Manchester United have been able to secure key signings from Jason Wilcox as technical director and Dan Ashworth as sporting directormeaning the club's senior line-up is complete.

Now all that remains is for Ten Hag and his new superiors to join forces and ensure that the team is able to meet the challenge this season.

Asked if he was happy to be back, the Dutchman told MUTV: “Very happy, otherwise I wouldn't extend my contract.”

Having won the League Cup in his first year and then winning the FA Cup on the final day of last season, Ten Hag is feeling optimistic about the season ahead and says he is looking forward to building on the winning mentality already being instilled at the club.

He added: “I've been here for two years. I said I came here to win titles, trophies. We won two trophies after six years of drought.”

“We are on the right track now that the new owners have come in, they can help us. They are very supportive. We do our own process and that is what we built up over the summer. We are in a very strong position to attack.”

“United hadn't won a title for more than six years, now we've won two. But we want more, bigger titles, like the English title and then more, looking ahead to Europe.

“But it's a process that takes time, and we're working on it. I know that with the set-up of the club, with the changes in the structure, with the changes in the infrastructure here at Carrington, we'll be ready for the future and we'll get better.

“You can feel it here. It gives us new energy, it gives us a new dynamic and it will help us achieve our goals. We want to win every game. We have seen that we are capable of beating anyone.”
