Brazil international Casemiro will leave Old Trafford in the coming weeks after a disappointing season, while the future of Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen remains uncertain.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS are keen to fill the voids left by departing players and Manchester United are reportedly eyeing a Premier League midfielder. The Red Devils have shown interest in West Ham United's Edson Alvarez.

According to the report, United have identified the Mexico international as a top priority in their search for midfield reinforcements, although West Ham are hesitant to part ways with him. The Hammers are expected to demand approximately £40m for the central midfielder, who joined them from Ajax last summer.

Alvarez, 26, had an impressive debut season at the London Stadium, making 42 appearances in all competitions under David Moyes, including 31 Premier League appearances.

Current United manager Erik ten Hag previously worked with Alvarez during his time at Ajax, and the report suggests he remains an admirer of the midfielder and is interested in a reunion.

Furthermore, if United fail to secure Alvarez, they could turn their attention to Benfica's Joao Gomes. However, Gomes' £70million release clause is considered unlikely to be met this summer.
