Everton They are reportedly preparing to spend big to sign Ajax Amsterdam star Brian Brobbey, according to a Spanish outlet. Transfers.
The Toffees have been in a relegation fight in recent campaigns and have fortunately managed to survive each time. Things remain the same this season as well and they are currently in 16th place in the table with 10 points from 11 games, placing them three points above the relegation zone.
Scoring goals has been a major problem for the Merseyside club this season as they have only managed to find the back of the net 10 times in 11 league games. They are currently the third lowest scoring team in the English top flight, just ahead of Southampton and Crystal Palace.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been Everton's starting striker over the years, but has had a difficult start this season, scoring just two goals in 11 league appearances. Beto has been his substitute and has only scored once so far this season.
Calvert-Lewin has entered the final year of his current contract with the blue side of the Merseyside club and looks likely to leave on a free transfer next year.
Therefore, if he does eventually leave the club, Sean Dyche's side will have to sign a new striker to replace him and they will look to sign an upgrade for the 27-year-old.
Brobbey to Everton
Transfers claims Everton have identified Brobbey as a serious option to bolster the centre-forward position and are preparing to make a £42m bid to secure his service.
The 22-year-old has been a key player for Ajax, so they are hesitant to sell him next summer, but they could find it difficult to turn down a big offer like this if the Toffees finally present it.
Brobbey enjoyed a stellar campaign for the Dutch giants last season but has found it difficult to replicate the same performance this season.
However, he is a strong striker and possesses the necessary attributes that Dyche wants in his centre-forward. Therefore, he could be a smart acquisition for Everton if they buy him.
But the reported fee of £42m seems a bit steep as Brobbey is yet to show his best at the highest level consistently enough to prove he is worth that much. Therefore, Everton should try to complete the deal for less than that sum.
