Adam Lallana surprised football fans by calling Anfield 'home' before his Brighton side played their big clash against Liverpool.
lallana signed by the Reds He joined Southampton in 2014 and spent six years at the club, making 178 appearances in all competitions.
The midfielder won the Premier League, the Champions League, the Super Cup and the Club World Cup before leaving to sign for Brighton.
He was named on the bench for Sunday's clash and showed his love for Anfield on his return to the iconic ground.
“It's absolutely amazing to come home, I love coming back here,” he told Sky Sports.
“I call it my home, I have very good memories here. I am used to playing here, we have had some good results in recent years.”
However, fans on social media were confused by the comments that came in just before kick-off, with one from X saying: “Crying, how can you say this an hour before kick-off?”
“It's a strange interview when you're about to play against them,” added a second.
“Bro is on the Brighton bench talking like this,” added a third.
Despite admitting he wants Liverpool to win the Premier League, he insisted he remains committed to Brighton winning the three points.
He added: “Of course it's going to be a big challenge for us (managing the atmosphere at Anfield).
“The title race is heating up a lot, of course I'm desperate for Liverpool to win the league and go far in the other competitions.
“I still think it's possible if they can lose one more game and still win the league, that's what I'm aiming for today unfortunately. We have our own fight this season and we want to get back to Europe.”
Brighton took the lead in the first two minutes with Danny Welbeck's spectacular goal before Luiz Díaz equalized for Liverpool.
