The Daily Briefing reveals that, despite reports that the agreement has been made, Wirtz is yet to put pen to paper, which naturally adds some uncertainty. However, he seems to be settling down with Leverkusen.

That's partly because it doesn't look like interested parties Bayern Munich, Manchester City and Real Madrid will be willing to pay the €130-150m asking price. However Christian Falk notes that there are ongoing discussions to include a release clause in his new agreement, although nothing concrete has been agreed upon.

If a clause is included, it would certainly facilitate a move to a top club if Wirtz decides to leave Leverkusen. Real Madrid has a long-standing interest in Wirtz, and local media have noted that they see him as a potential long-term successor to Luka Modric in his midfield.
