Footage emerges of Manchester City fans mocking Marc Cucurella as Erling Haaland responds to opponent's 'funny' taunt
Marc Cucurella was given a dressing down by Manchester City fans as he left the pitch in Chelsea's opening Premier League game.
The Blues defender went viral after Spain's Euro 2024 final victory by singing 'Cucu, Cucurella, eat paella, Cucu, Cucurella, drink Estrella, Haaland better tremble Cucurella is coming'.
He was filmed singing the chant several times amid his wild celebrations after beating England in the final.
Unfortunately for Cucurella and Chelsea, he failed to deliver on that promise.
Manchester City saw them off with a 2-0 win at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, with goals from Haaland and Mateo Kovacic.
And it was Cucurella who Haaland disengaged as the Norwegian put the ball into the back of the net.
Cucurella fell towards the end of the match with an apparent hamstring injury, and even seemed to ask the striker for help.
Cucurella was soon replaced by Renato Veiga.
The Spaniard then had to fight his way past the visitor, and the Spanish full-back's chant was clearly still fresh in their minds.
Images on social media show Manchester City fans harshly criticising him, and many of the words used cannot be translated in this article.
“He eats paella” was the title of the video posted on X.
Haaland had also clearly taken note of Cucurella's comments about the 'tremor'.
He appeared to ignore Cucurella's call for help when he fell to the ground with a cramp and instead walked past him.
Speaking after the match, the striker said: ViaPlay:“Well, Cucurella is a funny man.
“Last season he asked me for my shirt… and this summer he sings a song about me.”
Chelsea face Swedish side Servette in the Europa Conference League play-off on Thursday before facing Wolves away from home in the Premier League next Sunday.
It was another strong start to the season for Manchester City as they look to secure their fifth consecutive title.
It was Haaland's 91st goal for the club since joining two years ago.
“What a privilege and honour to be the coach of this group of players at this club, after all we have achieved,” said manager Pep Guardiola.
“The good news is the first three points. The bad news is that we have 70 games ahead of us. So the best thing is to stay calm, relaxed and enjoy the moment, of course.”
