Donny van de Beek appears to be returning to Manchester United and Eintracht Frankfurt are not willing to sign him, talkSPORT understands.

Van de Beek signed for German side Eintracht Frankfurt in January with a Purchase option valued at £9.5 million, but has not been successful.

talkSPORT understands that Frankfurt are not willing to activate the purchase option, which will see Van de Beek return to United at the end of the season.

The Dutchman does not seem to have a future at Old Trafford, since he was excluded from the squad for Erik ten HagWho was your manager in Ajax from 2017-2020.

He midfielder He has played only seven games since signing for Frankfurt and has spent much of his time on the bench at the club.

He was also left out of the club's Europa Conference League squad earlier this season in a brutal blow to his hopes of staying beyond the summer.

Van de Beek signed for United in 2020 in a deal worth £40m when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer he was in charge and was predicted to succeed as one of Ajax's rising stars.

However, the Dutch international struggled for consistency and stayed on the sidelines even when the Red Devils struggled in midfield.

Van de Beek made 36 appearances in all competitions in his debut season, but his appearances often came from the bench.

And that has been the best for the Dutchman, who since then has played only 26 games in three seasons.

He was also on loan for a brief period at Evertonjoining them in January 2022, where he played only seven games and scored one goal.

Before joining Frankfurt, Ten Hag only gave Van de Beek two minutes in the Premier League.

The United manager also left him out of his Champions League squad despite being the manager who helped make him a star at Ajax.

When Ten Hag joined Ajax in 2017, it was he who really brought Van de Beek into the first team and built a midfield around him as their attacking star.

He scored 40 goals in three years, but neither of them managed to repeat their success together at United.

Van de Beek is now looking for a new home in the summer after being told he could leave last year.

A last-minute loan to Ligue 1 side Lorient last year fell through when the French side pulled out of a deal, leaving him in limbo.
