Marvin Sordell has returned to football, where he has joined seventh-tier side Kettering Town.
The 33-year-old, who played in the Premier League at Bolton and BurnleyHe retired in 2019 at the age of 28 after a loan spell at Northampton Town.
At the time, Sordell was still under contract at Burton Albionbut decided to walk away from the beautiful sport, citing mental health problems and racist abuse.
After a five-year absence, the 2012 Team GB Olympian will return to the pitch after signing a contract with the Poppies.
Currently playing in the Southern League Premier Division Central, Sordell will be hoping to help Kettering to promotion as the club sit fourth in the table after eight games.
Announcing the news, Kettering said: “Kettering Town Football Club is delighted to announce that former Northampton Town loanee Marvin Sordell has joined the club.
“Marvin is a very experienced striker, having played for Stuart Pearce's Great Britain Olympic team in 2012, and then played for England's Under-20 and Under-21 sides.”
Before adding: “He's been out of the game for a while, but he wants to get back to the game he loves so much.
“We would like to wish you every success and hope you enjoy your time at Latimer Park. Welcome Marvin.”
Meanwhile, boss Richard Lavery said: “I am delighted that another player with such experience is joining the club.
“Marvin has been out of action for a while, but we believe he can bring another dynamic to the team.”
Kettering is the eleventh team Sordell has signed for during his career, having risen through the ranks of the Watfordwith whom he scored 27 goals in 83 games.
A change from the Premier League to Bolton In 2012, she continued her performances, earning her a place on Stuart Pearce's British team at the London Games.
During his time playing for the British team he coincided with Ryan Giggs, Micah Richards, Aaron Ramsey, Craig Bellamy, Joe Allen and Tom Cleverley.
Sordell stayed at Bolton after their relegation to the Championship, before a successful loan spell at Charlton led to newly promoted Burnley taking a chance on the player in 2014.
However, he failed to score in his 14 Premier League appearances during the 2014/15 campaign.
It was only earlier this month that Southampton striker Ben Brereton Diaz broke his unwanted Premier League record.
Sordell have never won a single game in their 17 top-flight appearances.
During his career, Sordell has scored 69 goals in 325 games in all competitions.
He could now form a strike partnership with another former Premier League centre-forward at Nile Rangers.
