Fulham striker Rodrigo Muñiz burst into tears after receiving the Premier League Player of the Month award from his teammates.

The 22-year-old has been in good form for the Cottagers, scoring four goals in as many games in March.

The Brazilian is the first Fulham player to receive the award since Mark Schwarzer in 2010 and only the second in the last 23 years since Louis Saha took the award in 2001.

Muñiz was in the middle of an interview when his compatriots Willian and Andreas Pereira burst in and presented him with the award.

The striker immediately burst into tears and told his teammates: “I don't know what to say.”

Muñiz has struggled to establish himself in Marco Silva's team and was unable to score a goal before February.

Since then, he has scored eight goals, including two goals in the 3-0 thrashing of Tottenham at Craven Cottage.

The Brazilian battled against a star-studded list of candidates for the March award, in which Cole Palmer, Alexis Mac AllisterHeung-min Son, Alexander Isak, Ben White and Antoine Semenyo, all in contention.

The former Flamengo star has stepped into the spotlight and could get the chance to represent Brazil in this summer's Copa America.

Muñiz has not played for Brazil at any level, but his recent heroics would have alerted Selecao coach Dorival Junior.
