The Süddeutsche Zeitung (via @bvbnewsblog) reports on the situation surrounding Borussia Dortmund and head coach Edin Terzic as his future is once again brought into question.
On the pitch, there are a group of players who are deemed ‘sceptics’ of Terzic. Interviews from Julian Brandt, Niclas Füllkrug and Nico Schlotterbeck suggest that they join Marco Reus and Mats Hummels as being against Terzic.
Why this could be is suggested by Sky Germany, Terzic has no clear idea when it comes to the team’s style of play, he has not helped develop players (Jamie Bynoe-Gittens and Youssoufa Moukoko) whilst his tactical substitutions happen too late.
Off the pitch, issues are arising as well. There are potential tensions between Sebastian Kehl and Edin Terzic as the issue surrounding the collapse of Edson Álvarez’s move to Dortmund in the summer is controversial. It is widely known that Terzic vetoed this move to keep Emre Can at the club. This idea is backed by Sky Germany who reports that Kehl is sometimes outvoted on transfer decisions.
Other issues are seen in the coaching team as Nuri Sahin was brought in to help Terzic and it is suggested to also protect him. Initially, Sahin’s tactical ideas were listened to, but in recent games, the former midfielder’s input has been heavily reduced.
Some of the problems off the pitch are heavily linked to Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke’s undying loyalty to Terzic. The outgoing CEO sticks with the opinion of Terzic in decisions against Kehl and will only sack the manager if things go badly wrong.
