Gabby Agbonlahor is all Aston Villa fans as 'remarkable' Emiliano Martinez howler gives away Liverpool goal
talkSPORT's Gabby Agbonlahor summed up the feelings of Aston Villa fans after Emiliano Martínez's bizarre own goal against Liverpool.
Just a minute into a game Villa needed to win to secure the Champions League, the visiting Reds took the lead in bizarre circumstances.
Harvey Elliott sent a cross into the box from the right and Martínez seemed to deal with the pressure but ended up putting the ball into his own goal.
This led to a nightmare start for Unai Emery's side, with Villa fan Agbonlahor turning to X to say: “I feel bad.”
Commenting on talkSPORT, Joe Shennan described the error as: “One of the most remarkable own goals we have seen in the Premier League this season.”
Fortunately for Villa, they soon equalized with a good goal from Youri Tielemans.
This prompted a happier post from Agbonlahor when he said: “It was a short illness! We're back on UTV!!!”
However, Liverpool regained the lead midway through the first half when Cody Gakpo fired home from close range.
A win will take Villa seven points clear of fifth-placed Tottenham, who face Manchester City and Sheffield United in their final two games.
Victory would also mark the huge improvement they have made under Emery, even after their Europa Conference League. disappointment in the semi-finals Last Thursday.
Villa have been one of the surprise packages this season, having competed for a top-four finish for much of the campaign.
The Champions League would be a well-deserved reward for their efforts and progress since Emery's appointment.
