Former striker Gary Taylor-Fletcher believes Nemanja Vidic was as good as Martin Skrtel and says he “destroyed him twice” while at Blackpool.

The former star interacted with fans on social media and one of them said Vidic deserved more respect for winning five Premier League titles.

At that time, the fan pointed out that the former Manchester United defender had done so against legendary names such as Thierry Henry, Didier Drogba, Andriy Shevchenko, Sergio Agüero, Luis Suárez, Robin van Persie, Fernando Torres and Hernán Crespo.

Taylor-Fletcher responded to the post saying: “Yes, and I trashed it twice for Liverpool in the 2010/11 season.

“It was nowhere near the levels of (Rio) Ferdinand, (John) Terry and VVD (Virgil van Dijk).

“He was on the same level as (Martin) Skrtel. Good solid player. Not elite.”

Taylor-Fletcher made just 32 career Premier League appearances, two of them against the Red Devils during the 2010/11 season.

In those matches, the journeyman striker managed to find the net against Man United, although his team lost 3-2 and 4-2 in their two matches.

Taylor-Fletcher's claims echoed the sentiments of talkSPORT's own Gabby Agbonlahor, who claimed in January that he knew exactly how to improve of the Serbian defender.

“I've said it before, I didn't find it difficult to play against Vidic,” Agbonlahor told the talkSPORT breakfast.

“Every time he got close, I turned behind him. I could hold the ball against him. Other players might say otherwise, but that's my opinion.”

During his time at Old Trafford, Vidic won Premier League titles, three League Cups, five Community Shields and a Champions League trophy.
