Gary Linker has set the record straight regarding his Match of the Day future, prompting Alan Shearer to hilariously take aim at Micah Richards.

The England legend has presented the iconic BBC Highlights Program since 1999 after replacing Des Lynam on the bench.

But last week rumors emerged that 63 years He could move on after his contract expires next year.

Reports even suggested that a statement from the broadcaster was being drafted to announce Lineker's departure.

Speculation led Lineker to open Saturday night's MOTD show with a cheeky joke about their future, much to the amusement of Shearer and Richards in the studio.

And the topic of his future came up again in the recent episode of The rest is football podcast, where Lineker provided an update on his contract with the BBC.

Starting the episode, the Newcastle hero. Shearer asked for clarification on Lineker's future after joking that he and Richards have been “worried for days.”

“So it's natural that at some point you have to have conversations, and they've only just started, so I don't know why everything got out of hand.”

It was at that moment where Richards chimed in, where he stated, “More worryingly, I'm a 4/1 to replace you!”

The three men then burst into tears, leading to a hilariously brutal line from Shearer.

He simply stated, “By the way, that's a huge concern.”

Recognizing that Manchester City fan favorite Richards would be great in the role, Lineker later commented: “I'd love to see you take over from Micah, I think you'd be brilliant in the chair.”

After the 2012 Premier League champion played down the talk, Shearer launched another cheeky jibe.

The former Blackburn star said: “By the way, I won't sign my new contract if you're a presenter!”

This prompted Richards to respond, saying, “I'd tell them to get rid of you! Imagine, Big Meeks, a dictator!”

Having the last word, Lineker commented, “You know what Micah? With your eyesight, I don't think you can read the autocue.”
