Gary Neville labels Man United 'the pound-for-pound worst team in the country' as he breaks unwanted records in Newcastle defeat
Gary Neville gave a scathing assessment of Manchester United on a record-breaking night for all the wrong reasons.
United They lost 2-0 to Newcastle and finished 14th in the Premier League standings with just 22 points at mid-season.
It is also the fourth consecutive defeat for Rubén Amorim's team in all competitions since their derby victory against Manchester City.
Newcastle They opened the scoring just four minutes later at Old Trafford when an unmarked but fit Alexander Isak headed in.
Joelinton then doubled their lead with Anthony Gordon's cross to ensure the home crowd could only despair at what they saw.
united legend Neville He was a commentator for Sky Sports and did not want to hold back with his verdict on the current squad.

“You're looking at the pound-for-pound worst football club in the country,” he said. “They're that bad.”
Neville was commenting on a United team that is valued at around £659m after another summer of big spending.
Big-name transfers such as Manuel Ugarte and Matthijs de Ligt have failed to produce the required quality so far.
In addition to the ninth league defeat of the season, United also achieved a series of unwanted records against Newcastle.
After respective 3-2 and 3-0 defeats against Nottingham Forest and Bournemouth, they have been defeated in three consecutive home league games for the first time since February 1979.
Furthermore, no team has lost more Premier League games since the beginning of December than United, with five.
The last time they were defeated in so many league games in a single calendar month was in September 1962, when they lost five.
Furthermore, United's 18 goals conceded in December are the most in a single month since they also conceded 18 in March 1964.
“These are worrying times for Manchester United and Amorim,” said Neville.
“He knew it was a big job, but I think it's a lot bigger than he ever imagined.”
A tense atmosphere among fans was clear as day on Monday night, especially during and after the first half.
Joshua Zirkzee was sarcastically applauded by the United fans after his substitution in the 33rd minute, and the boos also rang out at half-time.
“That's brutal,” Neville said of Zirkzee. “I haven't seen that many times at Old Trafford in the 43 years I've been here.”
United showed slight improvement in the second half, but lacked an advantage in front of goal and were ultimately defeated.
It is clear that coach Amorim still has many problems to solve, as his team is only seven points clear of the bottom three.
Last week there was talk of relegation and, although it is unlikely, United continue to underperform.
