Genk’s Jordan Torunarigha of interest to Borussia Mönchengladbach as transfer deadline day looms

Bild reports that Borussia Mönchengladbach are still looking to improve their defence ahead of Friday’s transfer deadline with Genk’s Jordan Torunarigha target.

In the words of sporting director Roland Virkus, Gladbach are looking for a defender who is:

“We definitely want to strengthen our defense. The player should cover as many positions as possible.”

Gladbach have looked at bringing Maximilian Wöber back to the club but Leeds are only interested in a permanent departure of the Austrian defender however, Gladbach cannot afford him and are only interested in a loan. Bochum’s Bernardo was also an option but the Brazilian is currently dealing with a knee injury and Bochum are demanding around €5m for the 29-year-old.

That is why Genk’s Torunarigha is an option, the 27-year-old would cost around €4.5m and can play not only as a centre-back but also as a left-back.

The former Hertha Berlin defender was also of interest to Hoffenheim, Eintracht Frankfurt and VfB Stuttgart but as the latter two have signed Arthur Theate and Ameen Al-Dakhil, they are unlikely to face competition.

Gladbach have already made three signings this summer with Kevin Stöger, Tim Kleindienst and Philipp Sander moving to Borussia Park, but with only a couple of days left of the window, Gladbach could be facing several departures with Ko Itakura and Manu Koné potentially leaving.
