Today the DFB provided a shock announcement as they announced that Nike will become Germany’s new kit manufacturer from 2027.

The deal will see the American sports brand make Germany’s kits from 2027 to 2034. On the new cooperation, DFB president Bernd Neuendorf said: “We are looking forward to working with Nike and the trust placed in us. The future partnership enables the DFB to carry out central tasks in the coming decade with a view to the comprehensive development of football in Germany. But it is also clear: By December 2026, we will be committed to our joint success with our long-standing and current partner Adidas, to whom German football has been very much owed for more than seven decades.”

The new deal will bring to an end a partnership with Adidas that would have lasted over 70 years by the time the new contract ends. The sports brand from Herzogenarach, just outside of Nürnberg, has provided the kits for Germany since 1954, apart from the 1966 and 1970 World Cup, with the national team also regularly using the campus at the Adidas headquarters for training ahead of major tournaments.

The decision to go with Nike is a surprising one due to the fact that Germany is the headquarters for two of the biggest sports brands in the world, Adidas and Puma as well as the aforementioned strong link with the German national team for so long.
