Girona are confident of progressing with a deal to sign Watford’s Yaser Asprilla with clubs now engaged in talks.
The Spanish top-flight side have held discussions with the 20-year-old Colombian international and agreement on personal terms is moving closer.
Final agreement between the clubs has not been reached as yet, but discussions over a transfer package in the region of £25million are now advancing.
A number of clubs have been tracking Asprilla’s progress since arriving at Watford in January 2022 from Envigado, Colombia.
The Athletic reported earlier this month that Ligue 1 club Rennes lodged an offer of £25m for the midfielder, but the deal broke down.
Asprilla, who scored six goals across 47 appearances for Championship side Watford in the 2023-24 campaign, has been capped six times by Colombia.
He made one substitute appearance in the group-stage victory over Costa Rica. He was an unused substitute in the final defeat to Argentina.
Girona finished third in La Liga last season to qualify for the Champions League, the first time they will have ever played in European competition.
Artem Dovbyk, Aleix Garcia, Savinho and Eric Garcia are among those who have left the Catalan club this summer, but nine players have been added to Michel’s squad.
Girona’s summer signings include midfielder Donny van de Beek from Manchester United, striker Bojan Miovski from Aberdeen and Braga forward Abel Ruiz, while Oriol Romeu and Bryan Gil have been loaned from Barcelona and Tottenham Hotspur respectively.
