Graham Potter rejects Ajax and says boss is a 'genuine contender' to replace Erik ten Hag at Manchester United
Graham Potter has rejected an approach from Ajax because he is a “genuine contender” to replace Erik ten Hag at Manchester United..
That's according to talkSPORT's chief football correspondent Alex Crook, who spoke about the Englishman's future after he turned down the job with the Dutch giants.
talkSPORT reported earlier this week how Ajax had conversations reopened with the 48-year-old, who previously shut them down earlier this campaign.
And once again he rejected the interest of the Eredivisie team, just as he had done before made with leicester after his departure from Chelsea.
Potter He has not worked since being sacked at Stamford Bridge in April 2023, where he lasted less than seven months in the role.
But despite the difficulties in west London, he remains highly respected, especially among United's new investor. Sir Jim Ratcliffe.
And Crook has revealed that, should Ten Hag be replaced, Potter could be next in line for the Red Devils job.
Talking about the White and Jordan Crook said: “He held several rounds of talks with the Dutch giants but turned them down about a month ago.
“They got him back to the negotiating table, but once again Graham Potter said 'No' to that particular opportunity.
“I think the financial package that Ajax offered didn't necessarily meet what Potter was looking for.
“But you get the sense that he's maybe saving himself for something bigger and better in his eyes.
“And you wonder if that could be replacing Erik ten Hag At Manchester United?
“He has a fantastic reputation with Sir Jim Ratcliffe, he has a relationship with Daniel Ashworthwho we know will arrive as sports director.
“They worked so well together at Brighton that I think Potter is a real contender if United decide to leave Ten Hag.”
Potter is not the only manager linked to the possible vacancy at the Theater of Dreams in case Ten Hag was relieved of his duties after two years.
england coach Gareth Southgate has been touted as a possible option, as has the former Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel.
talkSPORT understands the German would like to return to England to take the control United once he leaves Bayern Munich at the end of the season.
Brighton Roberto De Zerbi He is also another potential candidate, as is former Bayern and Germany coach Hansi Flick.
