Have you ever heard a more deceived manager? Erik ten Hag's interview leaves Gabby Agbonlahor baffled
Gabby Agbonlahor branded Erik ten Hag “deluded” after claiming Manchester United deserved to win three games last week.
The Red Devils had a busy week when they faced Brentford. Chelsea and Liverpool In just eight days, a streak of games that allowed them to stay with only two points.
After drawing 1-1 against Brentford, Man United were defeated by two late goals from Cole Palmer against Chelsea, who lost 4-3 at Stamford Bridge.
It was a similar story against Jurgen Klopp's side on Sunday, as despite trailing 1-0, Man United squandered a 2-1 lead. Mohamed Salah earned a late equalizer for Liverpool.
In those matches, Man United faced a staggering 87 shots in three games, but despite that, Ten Hag insists his team deserved to finish the week with a perfect record.
Speaking after the Liverpool game, Ten Hag said: “It's more frustrating after this week when you find yourself in a winning position three times and then three times you lose it.
“We should have had nine points after this week, but we only have two and the standard for manchester united is that you get nine points, you rise to the top four and compete for trophies.
“We can still win because we are in the semi-final of the FA Cup and in the top four, we will continue to fight for it.
“It is still possible because we have seen that if we add nine points this week we would be in the race for the first four.
“We have to believe in that and continue fighting for every point and every game.
“We need victories and the good thing is that we put ourselves in winning positions, but we have to learn to achieve victory.”
Responding to the interview, Agbonlahor was unimpressed.
“Have you ever heard a more deceived manager?” he asked Aston Villa legend.
“He should come out and say 'my team has to be better, we're not in the game, we gave the goal away and we have to defend the first goal better', but he says they should have nine points. ? You're annoying me?
A difficult week for the Red Devils now sees them 11 points behind fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur as they sit sixth in the Premier League table.
Man United's next game will be against Bournemouth on Saturday at 5.30pm.
