kicker reports that Hoffenheim are interested in Hertha Berlin’s striker Haris Tabakovic as they look to replace loanee Wout Weghorst.
Negotiations are said to already be well advanced between the parties as Hoffenheim looks to replace the goals of Maximilian Beier and Weghorst from last season.
Although Hoffenheim already have Adam Hlzoek and Mergim Berisha as attacking options this summer both are not the type of profile to replace Weghorst. Hoffenheim want a classic number nine and that is something that Tabakovic can provide.
On top of this, Hoffenheim has a view of the future, as they do not want to rely on Max Moerstadt right now, but they also do not want to hinder any chances he may have in the first team. The 30-year-old Tabakovic is a detour from Hoffenheim’s usual route of signing young players but this is to allow Moerstadt to develop.
For Hertha, this could be their second key player to lose this summer as Fabian Reese has been linked with a move to Freiburg. The issue for Hertha is they rely heavily on player sales for their money so if a good enough offer comes in for any player, their hands are usually tied.
Last season, Tabakovic finished as joint-top scorer of the 2.Bundesliga with 22 goals as Hertha finished ninth in his first season in the capital after joining from Austria Vienna.
