'How are you allowing this?' – Rio Ferdinand called out Wayne Rooney over the behavior of two Manchester United stars
Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has recalled the time he called Wayne Rooney in disgust over Jesse Lingard and Paul Pogba.
Fernando enjoyed great success together rooneywhere they won 12 major trophies together, including five top-flight titles and the Champions League.
Former West Ham centre-back Ferdinand leaves Old Trafford in 2014 before retiring at QPR the following year, and Rooney remained at the Theater of Dreams until 2017.
Following the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013, and soon after Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs, there was a big change in the dynamic of the dressing room.
It was something Phil Jones commented when he appeared on his former partner Ferdinand's show. youtube channel.
joneswho joined United in 2011 before leaving 12 years later, said: “Back then, when you look at the dressing room we had.
“We had so many incredible, powerful leaders who didn't let anything get in the way of the team performing and winning.
“That winning mentality was so strong and powerful that no one who came in could alter it.
“I think now the players maybe no longer have the ability to call people out and the power to say to them: 'That's not what we do at this football club… don't come here and start acting like that, that's not what we do.' 'I don't work here.
“I'm not saying that happens every day at the club, but if we lost a game, the next day we would have a meeting, not even with the coaches.
“Leaders would say 'this is not enough' after a defeat.”
Ferdinand then revealed how he once called Rooney angrily after seeing a video on social media of Pogba and Lingard dancing together in the dressing room in 2017, as United languished sixth in the table.
Ferdinand recalled: “I'll tell you when it changed, well I think from the outside and you can correct me if I'm wrong.
“I called Wazza when I saw Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard dancing when we were sixth in the league on Instagram.
“I called Wazza and said, 'What's going on here? How do you allow this?'
“And he said, 'You can't say anything, it's not the same anymore.'
“He said, 'It's not just Jesse and Paul, there's a lot of them together who would look at me like I'd be mad if I said anything.'”
Quickly responding, Jones then said, “Can you imagine if that happened in the locker room we were in? You'd get burned.”
Both Pogba and Lingard were guilty of inconsistent performances during their time at United, despite appearing in important games.
Lingard scored the winners in the FA Cup final and League Cup final, and also scored in the Community Shield against Leicester in 2016.
As for Pogba, he scored in the 2017 Europa League final, a victory over Ajax.
Neither man is on United's books today, with Lingard plying his trade in South Korea for FC Seoul.
While Pogba is currently unemployed, he appears willing to return to football after the Court of Arbitration for Sport reduced his four-year suspension for doping to 18 months.
