How Ivan Toney's Saudi salary would compare to Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar and Karim Benzema as Brentford striker closes in on Al Ahli
Ivan Toney will earn an exorbitant salary if he signs for Al Ahli, but he will not be anywhere near the highest-earning player in the Saudi Pro League.
Since the high-profile transfer of football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo to Al Nassr after his dramatic exit from Manchester UnitedOther big names have followed suit.
Saudi football's top flight has fewer fans and lacks the deep-rooted history offered by the Premier League and other major European leagues.
But players are still attracted by the unfathomable salaries available, with many signing life-changing deals that guarantee incredible wealth for the star and their families for years to come.
Brentford and England striker Toney is now expected to join Karim Benzema, Neymar and other big names in heading to the Middle East.
The Bees have already received a bid from Al Ahli of around £35million including add-ons, which was rejected, as talkSPORT revealed on Friday.
And Toney was excluded from Thomas Frank's team for their opening day victory over Crystal Palace.
“There's a lot going on with Ivan,” the Bees boss said. “Especially with transfers, there's a lot of interest in signings.”
“For all these reasons, we have decided not to include him in the squad. I cannot say too much.”
“Of course, Ivan is a top player, he has been fantastic for us for four years, but we showed last season that we can manage without him.
“Will this be his last game? Who knows. There is interest, but there is not much competition.”
Under his current contract with Brentford, which expires next June, Toney earns £21,000 a week, according to Sport,
talkSPORT understands Al-Ahli are considering making a better offer for him, with the Bees still demanding £50m.
So if Toney does sign for the Saudi side, how much will he earn? And where does that salary compare to other big names playing there?
Currently, 15 players in the Saudi league earn more than £10m a year.
talkSPORT reported that Toney wants 17 million pounds a yearso it would be included in that list.
That means he would earn £327,000 a week.
Meanwhile, Ronaldo tops Saudi Arabia's crazy wage charts, with an incredible £3.23m a week entering his bank account.
That's more than £168m a year, almost 10 times what Toney is seeking.
Barcelona legend Neymar comes in second behind Ronaldo, earning £1.62m a week.
Former Fulham star Aleksandar Mitrovic earns £404,000 a week, making him the eighth highest earning player.
Former Chelsea and Leicester player N'Golo Kanté receives the same salary.
Toney would narrowly surpass former Liverpool star Roberto Firmino's Saudi wage of £307,000 every seven days, meaning he would be the league's 12th highest earner.
Meanwhile, Firmino's former Reds teammate and Al Nassr star alongside Ronaldo, Sadio Mane, takes home £646,400-a-week.
Breaking down Toney's potential salary puts into perspective how much Saudi clubs are willing to spend to attract stars to their league.
On the money he wants, Toney would take home £17m a year, £327,000 a week, £46,714 a day, £1,946 an hour, £32.44 a minute and £0.54 a second.
The decision could well cost him his place in the England squad, with former Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson experiencing it first-hand after being ruled out of Euro 2024 following his move to Al Ettifaq.
That's despite the fact that Toney is still only 28 years old.
But with time running out on his current contract and Premier League clubs unwilling to intervene at the moment, Toney could well go from League One star to highly-rated Saudi player in the space of four years.
