I could have signed for Manchester United and I ruled out Liverpool for Galatasaray because they weren't good enough.
Wesley Sneijder has revealed the reasons behind his failed move to the Premier League.
He 40 years -considered one of the best midfielders of his generation- had two opportunities to be transferred to England.
Sneijder was one of the best players in the world during his time in Inter de Milanwhere he was part of their historic treble-winning squad in the 2009/10 season.
Just months after lifting the Champions League, he helped inspire the Netherlands to the World Cup final having scored five goals in South Africa.
A year later, iconic Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson almost poached Sneijder (the Netherlands' most capped player with 134 appearances) from Italy to take him to Old Trafford.
But despite being keen to join, his manager has been blamed for the deal failing.
While Liverpool They were then ignored by Sneijder in 2013 in favour of Galatasaray after the Reds finished seventh in the Premier League.
Speaking to talkSPORT about why he has never played for England, Sneijder said: “I've had the chance twice.
“The first one was for Manchester United, and in that my manager, my agent at the time, made a small mistake.
“And then it was Liverpool and I decided on Galatasaray rather than Liverpool.
“Simply because the Liverpool of that time was not the Liverpool it is today.”
Both United and Liverpool are now managed by Dutch managers, Erik ten Hag and Arne Slot respectively.
And Sneijder believes United, who finished eighth in the table last season, are better prepared. Win the league over his rivals.
Explaining his reasoning, he explained: “Because they have time to build something.”
“The coach will stay and they have enough confidence in him to keep moving forward. So I think they will be stronger this season than last.”
Comparing the two coaches, he commented: “They are both good coaches.
“Slot did an incredible job with Feyenoord and United have a lot of confidence in Ten Hag.
“He has extended his contract, too Ruud Van NistelrooyI just received the news that he Will be involved.
“I think they can do a great job because they have incredible players at United. There has to be a team, they need time.”
“That's what it looks like so far, they're giving you time to build a team. I think they'll be going for some prizes this season.”
