Recently, Vitor Roque admitted that he had a very tough time during his first few months as a Barcelona player. After joining from Athletic Paranaense in January, the teenager has struggled to make his mark at the Catalan giants, and has since been sent out on loan to La Liga rivals Real Betis.
Barcelona sporting director Deco spoke MD on Roque's recent remarks, and admitted that he was very annoyed by the coverage the young man received.
“It's good, he scores goals. Since I've known Barcelona, I don't remember such a bad attack on a young player, so it came from outside like with Vitor Roque. I don't know where it comes from, no I don't know if it's an attack on me or the club, but I don't think there was a personal attack on an 18-year-old boy that was so strong. I mean, he was attacked a lot hard, without sense, for no reason. We now see with Endrick a normal process of an 18-19-year-old player coming to Real Madrid going through a normal process.
“Vitor Roque was injured a lot and for me it was very difficult to see him suffer and to see how he went, how he went badly. That's football. I'm 47 years old and I'm not used to some things either … It was very bad. What I feel bad about is that the attacks on Vitor were not on him and I did not like it, the poor boy was not guilty of anything, to have state signed, if he didn't like the sports director, the coach or the president… He suffered a lot.
“I'm happy for him that he's playing for Betis and scoring goals and having fun again. He's a young man who has a lot of potential and will grow, but I don't remember an attack like that.”
Deco was a leading actor in bringing Roque to Barcelonaso it will be desperate for him to return to the club and become a success. For now, it remains to be seen if that will happen.
