Alan Shearer has backed Dominic Solanke for a big season in front of goal following Tottenham's win over Aston Villa.
He £65m summer signing scored twice as much Spurs came from behind to win Villa 4-1 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday.
Ange PostecoglouThe team had been trailing at half-time thanks to a goal from Morgan Rogers, before Brennan Johnson tied in the 49th minute.
Solanke then took center stage and put Spurs ahead in the 75th minute with a delicate touch over the ball. Emiliano Martínezafter being beaten by Dejan Kulusevski.
Just four minutes later he doubled his team's lead by scoring from close range, before James Maddison curled in a stunning late free kick to complete the rout.
Solanke's quick-fire brace saw him end his six-match goalless drought, having last scored in Spurs' 3-0 win over manchester united at the end of September.
This means that the forward has scored five goals in 13 games in all competitions after his summer switch of Bournemouth.
And the Premier League's all-time record goalscorer, Shearerhas revealed that he expects Solanke to increase this total in the coming months.
speaking in The rest is football. On the podcast, Shearer praised him, saying: “Solanke's (first) goal was brilliant, wasn't it?
“Kulusevski fed him, then he gave the goalkeeper a shot and then he got the second.”
He then backed the centre-forward, who scored 19 Premier League goals for Bournemouth last season, to improve this time in an attack-minded Spurs team.
Shearer continued: “I would expect him to score 20 goals, at least this season, because of the way Spurs play and the number of chances they create.
“I think for a striker, it's a very good team to play in because if he can stay fit with the players you have there and how they throw balls into the box (he should have opportunities).
“The first goal was a great example, with (Heung-min) Son whipping him and Johnson putting himself at the end.
“I think with the way they play, they should score at least 20 goals this season.”
Shearer's co-host, Gary LinekerHe also praised the striker, highlighting his all-round game and mental toughness as reasons why he is the right man to lead the Spurs line.
Solanke had problems playing for the first club Chelseaand then Liverpoolbefore reigniting his career with the Cherries in the Championship, and later the Premier League.
Ex-England and Tottenham striker Lineker said: “I like it a lot. I think he has come.
“I think he has evolved slowly over the years, hasn't he? He had problems at Liverpool, but then he scored a lot of goals in the Championship.
“Then he came (to the Premier League) and now at Bournemouth, he had done very well the season before.”
Lineker also pointed to the 27-year-old's ability to find form after a difficult start to life at Spurs as another great strength of his, as he took until the end of September to open his account at the club.
He said: “He was obviously a great signing for Tottenham, and you wondered if he could make a step forward. “(He) didn't get off to the best start, missing one or two chances early on.
“And the way he came out of that and still scored goals makes me think he is mentally strong enough for that role now.
“I think his touch is good. Holds it well. His movement is really good in the box, we saw that obviously in both goals, particularly in the (second) touch. He bet where the ball could go.
“I think he has a very, very good all-around game.”
