I played for Chelsea and anyone who thinks we were Premier League title contenders is an idiot.

Only idiots would have backed Chelsea to win the Premier League title this season; they may not even finish in the top four.

Enzo MarescaThe England team drew 2-2 at home against Bournemouth on Tuesday night.

Chelsea went into half-time leading, but had to be rescued by a last-minute free kick from Reece James.

The result leaves them ten points behind leaders Liverpool and two points off fourth place, although Newcastle can overtake them with a win against Wolves on Wednesday night.

Once considered as candidates for the title, Chelsea they could have briefly gone top of the table before Christmas had they beaten Everton at Goodison Park.

Since that clash on Merseyside, they have failed to win their next four top-flight games against Ipswich, Fulham, Crystal Palace and now Bournemouth.

Its form has left the door open for NewcastleManchester City and even the Cherries to overtake Chelsea if they continue to make mistakes.

Speaking on The Sports Bar, co-host Jermaine Pennant He questioned whether it would now be considered a disappointing season for Chelsea if they now finish outside the top four, despite not being in the running for a Champions League place before the campaign began.

To which Cundy immediately rejected the idea that his former employers were ever legitimate contenders to take over the Premier League.

He said: “Those who talk about Chelsea winning the title are idiots.”

Former Liverpool midfielder Pennant replied: “No, there was a little Cundy period, you were the closest rival.”

The Blues have taken just three points from the last 15 on offer in the top flight.

Not having it, a defiant Cundy insisted: “But that doesn't mean you're in the title race.”

Once again, Pennant was keen to emphasize that Chelsea had to be labeled as legitimate contenders as they were the closest team to the Reds in December, and said that if they continued to win games they would be in the running.

But Cundy refused to accept his logic, stating: “No, we weren't. I honestly can't stress this enough.”

“The 'if' (the winning streak) never happened. The only people who wanted that (to talk about the title) were the people who didn't watch enough of Chelsea.

“As we were never that team, I watched us, we were two goals up at Leicester (November 23) and we won 2-1.

“Two goals against Spurs (December 8), we won 4-3, we conceded late goals, we conceded goals in the second half.

“I think it's one of those league tables where if you didn't look at Chelsea, you'd say, 'Chelsea are in the title race.'

“If you saw Chelsea, you would say: 'No, Chelsea are not in the title race.'

“We just weren't that team, and I have to say I will be disappointed if we don't play in the Champions League.

“I'll say that, but the top five might get it (because of the coefficient scores).”

Cundy continued: “I think Newcastle will catch up to us, I think City He'll get us right now.

“I really believe it, I think they'll both catch up to us, I think I'm going to be disappointed.

“But there are two different things: not finishing in the top four or five because (the) top five could take you to the Champions League.

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca silences the journalist with a five-word answer while laughing at an awkward question

“But win the title? No. Only idiots thought that.”

Chelsea's attention will now focus on next Monday's match against Wolves. who they crushed 6-2 at Molineux earlier in the season.
