I played with Dimitri Payet but I forgot that the West Ham player was the best free-kick taker I have ever seen.
Dimirti Payet is widely regarded as one of the greatest free-kick takers in Premier League history, but a forgotten team-mate has been ranked even higher.
Pay He only played in England for two seasons, from 2015 to 2017, but lit up the top flight with a series of moments that will live long in the memory.
Among a series of outrageous moments of skill, the Frenchman scored 15 goals, five of which were unstoppable free-kicks.
Payet continued to increase his reputation as a set-piece god in France with Marseillesbut ex Hammers Teammate Carl Jenkinson He fondly remembers his time in London.
“He was very, very good, technically very good, his delivery of free-kicks and set-pieces made him one of the best I've seen,” Jenkinson told talkSPORT.
However, the former Arsenal man has seen better, even at West Ham.
Jenkinson continued: “Funnily enough, there was another player at West Ham called Nene, who was signed on loan, and he was the best free-kick taker I have ever seen.
“He played a few games, not many, but he had a great career playing for PSG, but I remember sitting there in training watching him take about 20 free-kicks and all of them went over the wall and into the top corner, I’d never seen anything like it.
“He was scary when it came to free throws, I'd never seen anything like it.”
Nene spent just one season at West Ham in 2014/15, making just eight appearances in which he failed to find the back of the net.
However, his time in England does not detract from his legendary career in France and Brazil, where he continues to play to this day.
In fact, Nene recently became the oldest goalscorer in the history of the Brazilian top flight, scoring for Juventude against Internacional at the age of 43 years and 26 days on August 15.
Before that I was a regular at Paris Saint-Germain From 2009 to 2012, playing alongside legends such as Zlatan Ibrahimovic, David Beckham and Thiago Silva.
Despite Payet and Nene's set-piece prowess, there is still one midfielder Jenkinson rates above them both.
“Santi Cazorla was pure mustard,” said the full-back when asked about the best midfielder he ever played with.
“With both feet the ball stuck to his feet, he took corners with his left and right foot.
“He was quite a small guy, he was tiny, he wasn't fast, but he was so good that you couldn't take the ball away from him.”
