Manchester United would compete for the Premier League title if they signed Ivan Toney.
That's the view of Peterborough president Darragh MacAnthony, who helped Brentford Star incredible rise in the English football leagues.
MacAnthony He signed Toney for Posh in 2018 following spells with Northampton Town and Newcastle, and the striker scored 49 goals in 94 games for the League One side.
He now plays in the Premier League for the Bees and has scored 36 top-flight goals since 2021, boosting his prospects of moving into the top six.
Toney's contract with the Bees expires next summer, so this could be coming very soon, and MacAnthony believes United He would benefit greatly from being hired.
speaking to sky sportsHe said: “Put him in an Arsenal team, put him in a Liverpool or Man United team, score 30 Premier League goals in a season.
“I think anyone who doesn't agree with that hasn't been watching the last two and a half years.
“I think there are five clubs in the world that could probably end up buying him and he will improve any of those clubs by a mile. He makes Manchester United a rival for the Premier League.”
United were longing for a striker who could help them win the Premier League title, something they have not won since 2013.
they signed Rasmus Hojlund in the summer on a £72million deal but has only scored seven goals in 21 top-flight appearances this season.
However, Toney could be the man to turn their fortunes around if a deal were agreed, and MacAnthony believes he could also top the Premier League scoring charts.
He commented: “Having scouted players not only for their technical ability, but also for their personality and growth for 18 years, I think he is not even in his prime even though he is turning 28.
“Whoever buys it, £100m will be well spent because it's in its prime.
“You are going to have five or six years of his best level. He has scored a goal every two games in the Premier League for Brentford.
“Put Ivan in an Aston Villa team under (Unai) Emery and see how many goals he scores in the Premier League. He would probably be there to win the Golden Boot.”
Following his eight-month suspension for breaching FA betting rules, Toney made his first appearance of the season for Brentford in January.
He scored on his return in the 3-2 home win against Nottingham Forest and seemed to hint he will stay to the club pointing to his chest and then to the field.
However, he has previously been linked with Arsenal and Chelsea, and Brentford manager Thomas Frank has apparently conceded Toney. Will be sold in summer.
