Ilkay Gundogan exploring options with Premier League clubs among those interested in Barcelona player
Ilkay Gundogan is exploring his options amid the possibility of leaving Barcelona.
There is interest in the 33-year-old from clubs in the Premier League, Turkey, Qatar and Saudi Arabia.
Gundogan is under contract at Barcelona until 2026 after he hit the appearance requirements last season to extend his two-year deal by 12 months.
The Germany captain missed his side’s La Liga opening 2-1 victory over Valencia on Saturday with concussion. Amid speculation over Gundogan’s future at Barcelona, head coach and compatriot Hansi Flick said after the game that he had spoken to the midfielder about “how he feels ahead of the season”.
”I know him very well,” Flick added. “I appreciate the player and the person he is. We spoke about everything, but it will stay between us, it’s not for you to know. I have a feeling he will stay.”

Barcelona briefing: Lewandowski can’t be dropped, Marc Bernal’s impressive debut
Gundogan joined Barcelona following the expiration of his Manchester City contract in the summer of 2023. In his debut season with the Spanish side, he established himself as a key member of then-manager Xavi’s side, scoring five goals and providing 14 assists in 51 games.
Barcelona, who remain in a precarious financial position, secured the €60million ($76m; £51.3m) signing of attacking midfielder Dani Olmo from RB Leipzig earlier this summer. They have not been able to register Olmo in their La Liga squad due to their financial situation and difficulties with complying with the league’s squad cost limit.
Barcelona are next in action against Athletic Bilbao on August 24.
