'I'll be waiting': Roy Keane and Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag engaged in awkward exchange after the match
Erik ten Hag and Roy Keane had an awkward exchange during a post-match interview on Friday night.
Manchester United started their Premier League campaign in the best possible way by recording a 1-0 win over Fulham at Old Trafford.
Was Joshua Zirkzee who found the net against the Stretford End on his home debut to secure three much-needed points to start the season.
After the victory, Ten Hag He sat down for a pitchside interview with Sky Sports presenter Kelly Cates alongside pundits Gary Neville, Jamie Carragher and Keane in which he spoke positively about his side's performance.
Cates then asked Keane if he wanted to ask anything, to which he said he was “just listening” to the United manager, before saying: “There's a good vibe!”
Ten Hag then joked: “Oh, you don't want to ruin the mood, do you?”
In response to the Dutchman's light-hearted comment, Keane replied: “Not tonight. Next week I'll be waiting!”
“Keep winning, it's easy, there won't be any problems.”
To which Ten Hag replied: “It's so simple!”
As both men laughed awkwardly, the interview continued before Ten Hag took his leave of the Sky Sports panel.
At the end of the interview, Neville stated: “He thought you were going to go after him,” to which Keane laughed: “I'm always nice to him!”
The exchange between Keane and Ten Hag was not the first awkward exchange of the night, either.
Before the match, the Manchester United legend put Ten Hag on the spot by asking him if the Red Devils would make any more signings this summer.
At first, the Dutchman laughed: “We can't just stand still, but it also depends on what happens in the market.”
Keane then probed further and asked what positions he would be looking at, to which Ten Hag replied: “I'm happy with the squad and when we have this squad I'll be very confident going into the new season.”
For United, it was the perfect start to what has been a hectic summer so far.
The Red Devils have signed Zirkzee, Leny Yoro, Matthijs De Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui as they aim to improve on last season's eighth-place finish.
The Red Devils' next game is against Brighton at lunchtime on Saturday, a clash that will be broadcast live exclusively on talkSPORT.
