I'm Roy Keane from Italy and I was considering a big transfer to Manchester City because of Oasis and I wanted to meet Liam and Noel.
“We see things they'll never see!” – that was the cry of many Manchester City fans amid their monumental treble success.
Oasis' lyrics have become a symbol of From the city achievements over the past few seasons and are destined to be sung about for the foreseeable future, especially now that the band is set for a monumental reunion.
One man likely to be in attendance is Roma legend Daniele De Rossi, whose love of Oasis was a factor in him almost signing for City years ago.
Brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher are lifelong City fans, with the latter making regular appearances at talkSPORT to talk about his beloved team and his influence is felt on match days with his hits heard throughout the Etihad.
The club have been signing some of the best players since winning the Abu Dhabi lottery and De Rossi was another close call. The midfielder spent 18 years at Roma but was linked with a £31m, £130,000-a-week move to City in 2012.
He ultimately turned down the move because, in his words, “I'm Roman,” but his love for Oasis came to mind when he was thinking about the move.
De Rossi is considered one of the best midfielders of his generation. He is a box-to-box player and has been compared to Steven Gerrard and Roy Keane, both of whom he deeply admires.
In Keane he He once said“I wear number 16 because of him. He is the only person in the world I asked for a photo with, two years ago. With Maradona I was very embarrassed, but with him I couldn’t resist.”
Talking to the Gypsies website In 2016, he explained why he considered a move to the Etihad. “A few years ago there was a lot of talk about me moving to Manchester City, but I never wanted to leave Roma.
“What excited me most about the prospect, however, was the fact that I would get to meet the Gallagher brothers.
“I grew up listening to them and I know all their songs by heart,” added the 2006 World Champion.
“I liked those guys, they were real characters. They weren't always conventional or very accessible, but I really liked the stereotype they represented: out-of-control rock stars.”
De Rossi eventually left Roma in 2019, sealing a move to Boca Juniors before announcing his retirement from the game a year later.
He won four trophies at club level but could have added many more to his list of accolades had he joined City more than a decade ago.
Since he was first linked with a move, the Citizens have won six Premier League titles, two FA Cups, six League Cups and now, finally, the Champions League.
As triple winners, City's dominance in football has extended from England to the continent.
De Rossi could have been among them, but as his musical heroes once said: “Don't be ashamed.”
And now the iconic British band are preparing to end their feud and perform a series of stadium concerts for a monumental comeback.
The brothers teased an announcement Sunday night, when the band’s logo appeared on their social media with the date “27.08.24” flashing to read “8am.”
The sun Dates are expected for Wembley and other UK venues including Manchester, Scotland and Wales, with Ireland in 2025.
For years, fans had wanted to see the pair reunite, but that seemed a long way off when Noel said of their split in 2009: “It is with some sadness and great relief that I tell you that I am leaving Oasis tonight. People will write and say what they want, but I simply couldn’t continue working with Liam for another day.”
Now De Rossi and others can start to tremble because there seems to be no doubt that there is no such thing.
