Inaki Williams has flown back from the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and could play for Athletic Bilbao against Barcelona on Wednesday night.
The 29-year-old featured for Ghana against Mozambique on Monday evening — coming on as a late substitute in the Ivory Coast.
But after Ghana’s exit from the tournament was confirmed on Tuesday, Williams has travelled back via Paris on a private plane organised by his club.
He has now been included in the preliminary match squad for the Copa del Rey quarter-final against Barca at San Mames.
An official decision on whether he plays or not will come when the final list is finalised closer to kick off at 9.30pm local time.
Williams has a long record of durability and only ended a streak of 251 consecutive La Liga appearances in January last year, a record that stretched back to April 2016.
Williams only made his debut for Ghana in 2022 having switched international allegiance from Spain.
He has gone on to make 17 appearances for his country including three at AFCON.
