Inside Leicester manager search with two big names ruled out, Ruud van Nistelrooy wants him and Championship target with £4m release clause
Leicester did not have a number one target in mind when they decided to change managers as the search begins for Steve Cooper's replacement.
talkSPORT understands the decision was largely driven by owner Aiyawatt 'Top' Srivaddhanaprabha.
He was concerned about Steve Cooper's style of play and also his relationship not only with the Leicester fans but also with the players within the dressing room.
Cooper lasted only 15 games in the position at King Power Stadium.
A 2-1 home defeat to Chelsea was the final straw and his departure was confirmed just 24 hours later.
Furthermore, talkSPORT understands that Leicester's performances have been monitored for some time and the club felt they needed to perform to maintain their Premier League status.
Whoever takes over will receive funds to strengthen the team in January in a bid to ensure their survival in the top flight.
Here talkSPORT looks at the top candidates linked to the role.
Graham Potter
talkSPORT understands that the next coach will not be Graham Potterdespite the fact that the Leicester owner reconsiders the possibility of hiring Potter.
When Cooper was fired on Sunday, the former Chelsea The boss is believed to have the same reservations that prevented him from taking the job in the summer.
Potter has been away from the bench since leaving Stamford Bridge in April 2023.
Since then he has been linked to a number of jobs nationally and in Europe, including with manchester united and England.
David Moyes
Another name that has been mentioned in some sectors is that of David Moyesbut again, we understand that he is not part of the thought process at this stage.
The 61-year-old is available after leaving West Ham at the end of last season.
During his second spell in charge of the Hammers, Moyes achieved three consecutive European campaigns and won the European conference league.
A host of Premier League fighters I have been looking at it since, including Crystal PalaceWolves and Southampton.
Carlos Corberan
Corberán has done a good job at West Brom and was someone the Leicester hierarchy looked at last before deciding on Cooper.
He has a £4m release clause in his contract so would be an expensive signing.
The Spaniard guided the Baggies to the play-offs last season in his first full season in charge.
Meanwhile, they have made another good start to the current campaign, sitting sixth in the championship with just two defeats in 16 matches.
Ruud van Nistelrooy
He spent four games in charge as caretaker manager of Manchester United and is very interested in getting a job in the Premier League and would love the opportunity to replace Cooper, so he is someone to keep an eye on.
Ruud van Nistelrooy's only previous experience as a senior manager came with PSV during the 2022/23 season.
The former Dutch forward led the club to win the Dutch Cup during his solitary campaign on the bench.
Since leaving Old Trafford earlier this month, Van Nistelrooy has been linked to vacancies in both Coventry and Hamburg.
Lee Carsley
Carsley has just finished as England's interim manager, winning five of his six games in charge.
The appointment of Thomas Tuchel as Three Lions head coach means Carsley will return to his role as England Under-21 manager.
However, talkSPORT understands he is a contender for the Leicester job.
Next odds for the Leicester City manager
- Ruud Van Nistelrooy 1/2
- David Moyes 11/4
- Graham Potter – 10/3
- Carlos Corberán. 5/1
- Mark Robins 25/1
- Lee Carsley 25/1
