Internationals: Late heartache for McGinn

John McGinn suffered last-gasp heartbreak as Scotland bowed out of Euro 2024 following a 1-0 injury-time defeat to Hungary on Sunday night.

Pushing for the goal that would have strengthened their hopes of progressing to the knockout stages, Scotland conceded in the 10th minute of added time as Kevin Csoboth settled the encounter on the counter-attack in dramatic fashion.

Aston Villa captain McGinn completed 76 minutes of the crucial Group A clash in Stuttgart, as the Tartan Army looked set to share the spoils in their final group match at the European Championship – and hope to progress as one of the four best third-placed sides.

But the cruel late drama means Scotland exit the tournament having finished fourth in the standings, with one point from their three matches in Germany.
