Emi Martínez and Jhon Durán suffered mixed emotions as Argentina triumphed 1-0 over Colombia in the Copa América final in Miami.
Reigning world and Copa América champions Argentina defended their crown courtesy of Lautaro Martinez’s winner in the second half of extra time at Hard Rock Stadium.
Goalkeeper Martínez completed the showpiece final while Aston Villa team-mate Durán remained an unused substitute in the early hours of Monday morning.
La Albiceleste claimed a record 16th Copa América and a fourth successive international title having celebrated the last edition in 2021, 2022 Finalissima and 2022 World Cup.
Colombia, meanwhile, saw their incredible 28-match unbeaten run come to an end, suffering their first defeat since losing to Argentina two years ago.
There was also further reward for the impressive Martínez as he was once again recognised with the tournament’s Golden Glove Award.
It is the latest in a line of individual plaudits for Villa’s No.1, who also claimed the Award at the 2021 Copa América and World Cup in Qatar.
Martínez was named as the winner of the prestigious Yashin Trophy at the Balon d’Or awards ceremony last October, as well as The Best FIFA Men’s Goalkeeper Award.
